To claim points for English language ability, your test score must meet or exceed the thresholds below in all four components (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). Competent English is the minimum for a skilled visa application; Proficient adds 10 points and Superior adds 20 points to your total.

Scores shown reflect the Department of Home Affairs Migration (Specification of Language Tests, Test Scores and Passports) Instrument 2025 (in force from 7 August 2025). The 2025 instrument also accepts CELPIP General, LanguageCert Academic and the Michigan English Test (MET) — contact us for the score thresholds for those tests. All scores are the minimum required in each of the four components.
